The raison d'être of any recital or concert is to push budding young talents out of their snugly cocoons, expose them to playing in front of breathing strangers, and to provide them a safe stimulus where they could learn to struggle and manage their nerves. It's never easy to play in front of a crowd, and many have perhaps, due to the lengthy period of being in isolation due to Covid-19, forgot this important competency.
Social distancing and minimizing human interaction may be effective in curbing the health pandemic. However, this move is double-edged sword. The music that the students do not permeate the comfortable walls of their residence. They play to an audience of - as I chant like a mantra to many parents - their household members, helpers and their pets.
It confers me immense joy and pride that this recital on 6 Nov 2022 was a success and viable platform for my students to showcase their diligently prepared pieces to an excited crowd of beaming family members, friends and all others whom were invited to spectate. The musical afternoon spent together was definitely effective in raising their confidence and to also cement all the nagging I do in class. While not entirely powerful, it will surely contribute to lesser reminders on projecting proper posture and on recognizing the essentiality of practice! :)
